Kontiolahti Sport Club is a well-known sport club in Finland. Its skiers and biathletes have been succesful lately. The sport club has organised international and national championship competitions.
Internationally Kontiolahti has become known for biathlon. Since 1990, seven World Cups and two European Championships as well as two Junior World Championships have been organised at Kontiolahti Biathlon Stadium. The 1999 World Championships in Kontiolahti was televised with 40 million spectators watching the event.
Kontiolahti Sport Club has many good biathletes. During the season 2010/2011 Kaisa Mäkäräinen won gold in pursuit at the World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk and she also won IBU World Cup Total Score.
