458 young biathletes coming to Kontiolahti (4th January 2012)
The greatest amount of participants ever is going to take part in the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon in Kontiolahti in February. There are going to be 458 young athletes aiming for the medals in Kontiolahti Biathlon Center on the 18th-26th of February. So far there are 37 countries that have signed up for the contest. The total number of athletes and other team members is 710.
There are 127 participants for the Junior Men's category and 99 for the Junior Women's. There are 126 young biathletes in the Youth Men’s contest and 106 in the Youth Women’s. The biggest teams are coming from Russia, Belarus, Estonia and Germany whereas the smallest teams come from Turkey and the Netherlands. There are going to be 20 biathletes from Finland. The Youth/Junior World Championship competition includes individual, relay, sprint and pursuit.
The upcoming IBU Biathlon World Championship 2015 in Kontiolahti has added the popularity of YJWCH2012. Many of the biathletes competing currently are going to be fighting for general series championships then. Now the contest of 2015 has increased Kontiolahti’s popularity as a place for training camps.
The official patron of the Youth/Junior World Championship competition is the Minister of Culture and Sport Paavo Arhinmäki. The competition chief is Tuomas Ylä-Tuuhonen.

International competition season begins (9th November 2011)
International biathlon competition season begins at Kontiolahti in 19.-20.11. with Telekarelia Grand Prix. You will the information about the competition here. International cross-country season starts in 3.-4.12. with annual FIS-competition. Information is available here.

Competition calender updated (3rd May 2011)
Competition calender has been updated for season 2011/2012. The main event at Kontiolahti Biathlon Stadium is E.ON IBU World Cup 8.-12.2.2012. Another big event is IBU Youth/Junior World Championships 20.-26.2.2012. During next summer at Kontiolahti will be held for the first time IBU Roller Cup Biathlon 19.-21.8.2011. Biathlon Masters International Championships will take place 22.-25.3.2012. More information will be updated later.

IBU WCH 2015 will be held at Kontiolahti (9th September 2010) IBU Congress in St. Petersburg was a great success to Kontiolahti-Joensuu Bidding Committee. On Sunday Kontiolahti was elected to be a host of IBU World Championships in 2015. Kontiolahti won other candidate, Holmenkollen, by votes 23-20. You can find more information about the election on IBU's web page.

IBU World Championships 2015 candidate web page has been released today. On candidate page you can find information about Kontiolahti-Joensuu area, Kontiolahti Biathlon stadium and new pictures of the stadium plans for the future. You will find new web pages here.
Kontiolahti-Joensuu is a candidate for IBU WCH 2015 (15th June 2010)
Kontiolahti-Joensuu OC is bidding for IBU World Championships 2015. Holmenkollen (NOR) is also bidding for the IBU WCH 2015. The delegates of the IBU Member Federations will vote on all of these items during the 9th regular IBU Congress September 2-5 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Joensuu also submitted a bid to host the 2012 IBU Congress.

Biathlon world cup will take place in Kontiolahti 10.-14.3.2010. New web pages for the competition have been released and you wiil find pages here. There you can find all information about world cup event.

Hurajt and Halinarova won international sprint (16th November 2009)
Slovakian Pavol Hurajt won men's category in international sprint competition. With clean shooting he won Jouni Kinnunen by 37,9 seconds. In women's category winner was also slovakian. Martina Halinarova won Laura Toivanen by 2,7 seconds. Both competitors had one missed shot on shooting lane.

International competition schedule (12th September 2008)
During the season 2008/2009 there will be organized many international competition at Kontiolahti Biathlon stadium. International Biathlon Grand Prix will be held at 22.-23.11. There are big price money for the winners in the men and women category. Winner (sprint+pursuit) wil be awarded 1000 euros, second 500 euros and third 300 euros.
You will find invitations to the international competions below. The invitation for annual Masters competition (12.-15.3.2008) will be released in october.

Masters ended season 2007/2008 (10th April 2008)
Season 2007/2008 ended with Masters competition. First competition day was 3rd of April. On sprint competition there were two winners from Russia and ten winners from Finland. On Friday there were relay and on Sunday individual competition. On individual competition Aleksander Mironyuk (RUS) won on category Men40, Bernd Hellmich (GER) Men45 and Juris Kokins (LTV) on Men50. Other winners were from Finland.
